iPhone QR Reader

Scanning QR codes on your iPhone is a lot easier than it used to be. Apple now has a QR code reader built right into its camera. You no longer need to install a separate QR Reader app. Phew!

First open your camera app. This can be done through Settings, by tapping the Camera icon, or through the Control Center.

Next, focus the camera over the QR code. There’s no need to click the camera’s shutter button. Your iPhone will automatically recognize the QR code and show you an on-screen notification. Make sure you have a strong cell signal or are connected to WiFi. Otherwise the scanner and notification might not work.

Before scanning a QR code, make sure the code comes from a trustworthy source. Codes found on product labels are usually safe but not always. Do not scan a QR code if you have any question over its authenticity. The code could link to a fraudulent website, hijack your personal and financial information, or inject malware into your phone.

How to scan a QR code

  1. Open the Camera app from the Home screen, Control Center, or Lock screen.
  2. Select the rear facing camera. Hold your device so that the QR code appears in the viewfinder in the Camera app.
  3. Your device will recognize the QR code and shows a notification.
  4. Tap the notification to open the link associated with the QR code.
